To achieve its objective, conclusions are based on findings from practitioners and employing organisations, in a context of the prominent literature in this field. This research work first aims to develop a microgrid architecture integrating dispatchable and non-dispatchable distributed generation units in a series-cascaded manner. Existing control strategies for cascaded microgrids focus on dispatchable type generation only. This thesis examines both organisational and consumer perspectives on the BOP market in Sri Lanka using a sequential mixed-method approach aligned under four phases of studies. The findings of the qualitative studies on organisational perspective confirm the market opportunities for large companies, particularly in the rural BOP market, but also find that the focus of alleviating poverty is lacking among practitioners.
