Garlic has been utilized since ancient times for both culinary and medicinal purposes. Recent research has identified selenium compounds in garlic, including γ-Glutamyl-Se-methylselenocysteine (GGMSC), leading to the hypothesis that GGMSC acts as a carrier for Se-methylselenocysteine (MSC). Experiments conducted on animals by researchers indicate that the effects of GGMSC in garlic and MSC on cancer cells in experimental models are equivalent. This finding suggests that garlic is a potential chemotherapeutic agent to enhance cancer treatment.

Red yeast rice is produced from rice using Monascus purpureus fungus, which results in the red colour of the fermented rice. Red yeast rice has been used for a thousand years as a food preservative and in traditional medicine to support vascular and digestive health. Chamaecrista pumila has empirically been used to treat inflammation-associated complications. However, the molecular mechanism and chemical components underlying the anti-inflammatory activity of this medicinal plant are poorly understood. Hence, the present study aimed to identify main bioactive compounds from the ethyl acetate fraction of C. pumila extract, which was demonstrated to possess the strongest anti-inflammatory effect in a previous study, and provide mechanistic insights into modulation of inflammatory responses by the compound of interest.

This study focuses on the biological characteristics of the genetic resources of the Stephania brachyandra in Thai Nguyen, one of Vietnam's valuable medicinal plants currently at risk of extinction. Investigation results indicate that Stephania brachyandra is commonly found at an average density of 32.57 plants per square kilometer, with distribution density varying across districts, being highest in Vo Nhai district and lowest in Phu Luong district.

OECD guidelines were applied. Mice were divided into 7 groups consisting of 30 females and 10 males each. In which, the control group received the solvent, only females or males in 4 other groups were taken the testing samples (32), and both females and males of 2 remain groups were given those samples. Mice were given oral samples at a dose of 288 or 576 mg/kg/day × 7 consecutive days depending on individual group.

The study was carried out in Wistar rats for 4 consecutive weeks by oral administration at the doses of 0.77 and 2.32g/kg/day. After treatment, no significant treatment-related abnormalities were observed at both doses of Boga-TN, compared to the control group, except for the white blood cells, with lower neutrophil but higher lymphocyte values observed in the treated animals. Histopathology assessment did not show any significant variation between control and treatment groups during the study period.
