In the present study, foam mat drying of the custard apple pulp have been conducted by using Glycerol monostearate (GMS) (0.5%, 1.5%, 2.5%, 3.5% and 4.5%) as foaming agent and 0.5% methyl cellulose (MC) as the stabilising agent with whipping time of 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 minutes.

In this work, cellulose was successfully extracted from pineapple leaf waste by 0.75 M NaOH at 90oC and 5 M HNO3 at 70oC for 1.5h and 5h, respectively. The obtained cellulose fibres, with average diameters of 150-300 nm, were converted to carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) by esterification.

In this work, surface-functionalization agents and various salts as auxiliaries were used to improve the adsorption capacity of biochars produced via hydrothermal carbonization of glucose, cellulose, and hazelnut shell. The effect of surface functionalization with different acids and bases as well as neutral salts on the adsorption of methylene blue and methyl orange was investigated using Boehm titration, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy techniques.

An experiment was conducted to study the effect of edible coating and packaging material on physiological and sensory quality of litchi fruits. For this, mature litchi fruits were harvested from HRC, Patharchatta and the selected fruits were treated with Guar Gum, Xanthan Gum and Methyl cellulose (low viscosity and high viscosity)as edible coating at different concentration (0.5%, 1.0%, 2.0%, 2.5%) and stored at 4 ± 1 °C under 90 ± 5% RH.

Soil samples collected from two termite mound soils in Anna University campus, Chennai, Tamil Nadu were characterized for the various parameters such as pH, Electrical Conductivity (EC), Total organic carbon (TOC), Nitrogen (N), Phosphorus(P) and Potassium (K)and microbial activity. Three cutivars of mango viz; Amrapali, Dashehari, Mallika and one seedling mango were evaluated for production of foam mat dried powder. Initially, physico-chemical properties were determined. Mango Pulp of different cultivars was foamed by carboxy -methyl - cellulose (CMC) at different concentrations 0, 1.0 and 2.0% followed by drying in tray drier for preparation of instant mango powder.

An experiment was conducted for isolation of cellulolytic microorganisms from diverse environments. Samplings were done from 8 locations representing 27 samples viz. forest ecosystem, composting units, incorporation experiments and agricultural fields. A total of 653 microorganisms including bacteria, actinomycetes and fungi were isolated using serial dilution plate assay. All the cultures were initially screened for cellulolytic potential using carboxy methyl cellulose medium on the basis of zone of hydrolysis obtained.
