Folding plates with wavy shapes made of composite materials have been widely applied, hence designing this type of structure is significant in practice. In this research work, the results of static calculation of the sinusoidal corrugated composite plates will be analyzed.

This research project investigates the influence of decoration and decorating on a fashion design practice, exploring the transformative effects of both in relation to surface and structure. Decoration is considered an after-effect, an element that can be differentiated from the object it adheres to, sometimes making it superfluous to the object’s function. In this project I consider decoration as having its own function – the ability, through its link to the ‘exterior’ world, to transform the shape, appearance and materials of forms by modifying their facade.

The thesis research followed a constructivist assumption to claim knowledge. The strategy of inquiry was the case study taking the multiple-case, comparative design. Three case studies were conducted in this thesis. The research method mainly relied on open-ended interviews supported by semi-structured interviews and triangulations using documentation and archival records. It basically took the qualitative approach. The three case study organisations are typical large organisations and major employers of the Hong Kong IT workforce.

The research methods involved participatory action research during the projects, followed by semi-structured interviews with key decision makers after project completion. The analysis was conducted by a combination of manual processes and NVivo software. The analysis revealed decision makers perceived two specific tools, being personas and Journey maps, as having influenced their ‘felt’ accountability.

Study on hydraulic stability and structural integrity of RAKUNA-IV armour units when randomly placed on the seaward slope of a rubble mound breakwater by means of experiments on physical models in a wave flume and simulations in mathematical models. The results of the research were later applied to a specific breakwater. Recommendations and solutions were thereby put forward for the design, production and construction of RAKUNA-IV armour units when applied to rubble mound breakwaters in reality.

This study mainly focuses on the structural design optimization of the 4th-generation reactor coolant pump, including analysis of external characteristics, inner flow, and transient characteristic. It was found that: the reactor coolant pump with a central symmetrical dual-outlet volute structure has better radialdirection balance, the pump without guide vane has better hydraulic performance, and the pump with guide vanes has worse torsional vibration and pressure pulsation.

In this study the issue of staff retention is explored and the external and internal factors affecting staff working in a humanitarian context are analysed. The objective of the study is to identify the most appropriate approach NGOs can adopt to improve retention of Gen Y staff working in a humanitarian context. This paper present the results of research on designing mold for vacuum infusion technique for preparation the polymer composite material. Specimens of varrious methods of vacuum technique have been prepared and their mechanical and structural properties have been studied. The results show that material obtained from vacuum assisted technique have a preciously mechanical properties, increased in average 45% in comparison with hand lay up method. The scanning electronic microscopy has been used for investigation on void appearance of composite materials.

A novel, type 1 ribosome-inactivating protein designated charybdin was isolated from bulbs of Charybdis maritimaagg.
