The object (for students) in this course is: To learn how to interpret statistical summaries appearing in journals, newspaper reports, internet, television, etc; to learn about the concepts of probability and probabilistic reasoning; to understand variability and analyze sampling distribution; to learn how to interpret and analyze data arising in your own work (course work or research).

In order to distribute earnings to shareholders, besides cash dividend, the firms can also buy back shares. However, compared to cash dividends, share repurchases are less common. Therefore, the thesis only focuses on cash dividend policy of the firms. Specifically, the thesis studies the dividend payment policy of 460 firms listed on HSX and HNX between 2010 and 2016. The data is collected from 2009 to 2017. The data needed for research is extracted from the Datastream database. The final sample includes 2,653 firmyear observations.

This thesis presents time-resolved measurements of the spin evolution of transient carrier populations in III-V quantum wells. Non-equilibrium distributions of spin polarisation were photoexcited and probed with picosecond laser pulses in three samples; a high mobility modulation n-doped sample containing a single GaAs/AlGaAs quantum well, an In0.11Ga0.89As/GaAs sample containing three quantum wells and, a multi-period GaAs/AlGaAs narrow quantum well sample.
