UNIT 8: CELEBRATIONS WRITING Describing a celebration
I. BEFORE WRITING: Work in pairs, read the description of the Mid-Autumn Festival and find out the main points. Mid-Autumn Festival is one of the popular celebrations in Vietnam. This celebration is held on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month. It is the time when people celebrate the largest full moon in the year. Children wear masks, parade in the street, have parties with special cakes and lots of fruits. I like the festival very much because it is an opportunity for me to gather with my family and friends to enjoy the moonlight and many special refreshments. * Name of the festival: -> Mid – Autumn Festival * Time of the festival: On the 15th day of the 8th lunar month. *Purpose of the festival:  People celebrate the largest full moon in the year. * Main activities of the festival:  Children wear masks, parade in the street, have parties with special cakes and lots of fruits. * Your feeling about the festival:  I like the festival very much because it is an opportunity for me to gather with my family and friends to enjoy the moonlight and many special refreshments.

While writing:* Write a description of the Vietnamese Teacher’s Day, using the following suggestions: * Name of the celebration: The Vietnamese Teachers’ Day * Time of the celebration: 20th November on the Western Calendar * Purpose of the celebration: Students express their love and respect to the teachers * Main activities of the celebration: Students give flowers and best wishes to their teachers * Your feeling about the celebration: . Like this day very much . Have an opportunity to visit my teachers
II. While writing: * Write a description of the National Independence Day, using the following suggestions: * Name of the celebration: The National Independence Day * Time of the celebration: On the 2nd of September * Purpose of the celebration: People celebrate the Independence day of Viet Nam. * Main activities of the celebration: People parade in the streets, visit historical places. * Your feeling about the celebration: . Like this day very much. . Remember the past history of our nation. . Feel proud of our nation.
