This research aims to improve the vocabulary capacity of high school students through the Anki application. Experimental activities are conducted at the end of semester 1 and the beginning of semester 2 of the 2023-2024 school year. A total of 8 lessons and 8-week lessons are dedicated to achieving the desired results.

This study, which focuses on vocabulary teaching methods, is going to investigate the application of multimodality to the vocabulary learning of students from the perspectives of using images in some communicative activities to enhance students‟ vocabulary retention. The major aim of the research is to investigate whether the use of images in vocabulary teaching can help improve students‟ vocabulary retention. The second aim of the study was to find out the correlation between students’ MI scores and their vocabulary learning strategy use. Before analyzing the correlation, it was found that Intrapersonal intelligence was the most dominant type among participants, while Mathematical Intelligence was the least used one. Pearson correlation was performed to see the potential relation between two variables.

The triangulated data results are surprisingly revealing in many essential aspects of vocabulary instruction, ranging from selecting vocabulary, teaching vocabulary directly and indirectly, explaining vocabulary meanings, teaching vocabulary through skills in various teaching phases in class. Hopefully, the findings of the study have provided an insightful understanding of vocabulary teaching practices in the primary school settings in Vietnam. From these empirical findings, relevant implications are suggested for better vocabulary instruction to young learners in Vietnam.
