This thesis addresses important issues about how to make game characters and virtual agents more realistic or believable by using cognitive-social personality theories. We begin motivation by discussing two examples. The first is from a television series and the second is a more concrete example that will be used throughout the thesis to explain concepts and the model. These examples represent the ideal goal of our work.

The study examines how Small-Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) demonstrate a range of innovation capabilities when they collaborate with a regional university research centre. This collaboration is shown to be important to create and exchange new knowledge to advance the firms innovation performance. The study demonstrates the ability of firms to acquire and exploit this knowledge, which is a business competency described as absorptive capacity (AC). AC relies on several antecedents or factors to engage with a collective learning process.

This thesis investigates the choice behaviour of first year undergraduate students through proposing and testing a conceptual model. The psychological constructs of personal values, motivation, selection criteria, demographic and socioeconomic factors introduced as underlying drivers provide invaluable insight into the pathways of influence and relationships between student types and their preference towards a particular degree program at a particular university.

This qualitative study offers a significant contribution to addressing the increasing youth suicide rate in Australia, with suicide now the leading cause of death for young people aged 15 to 24 years old (AIHW, 2017, 2020b; Robinson et al., 2016). This study aims to investigate the language used for denoting graduation in English literary discourse. Basing on the theoretical framework of Appraisal proposed by Martin and White (2005), it lays its focus particularly on how intensification as graduation is realized via linguistic and stylistic means in English literary discourse.
