Ebook "Sustainable innovations in textile fibres" highlights the innovations in textile fibres, that is the starting point of the supply chain. There are numerous innovations made in terms of making the existing fibres sustainable and also to discover new sustainable fibres. This book deals with those innovative sustainable textile fibres in detail. It also presents an overview of various current textile fibres, their issues associated with sustainability and how new, sustainable fibres overcome those issues.

Eco-responsible flame retardant treatments with some resistance to washing are of considerable interest in the sale and applications of technical garments and home textiles. Thus, in the present study, a nano-hybrid composite based on kaolinite-TiO2 was prepared and incorporated into the fibers of cotton fabric through a more sustainable route compared to existing commercial processes.

Both enzyme-activated and subsequently modified samples were characterized by ATR-FTIR, XPS, and SEM. All obtained results confirm the structural and morphological changes of the fiber surface after the application of the two-step procedure. The particular responsiveness to temperature and to pH of the coated fibers was evidenced by following the swelling behavior. It was established that the swelling kinetics followed a Fickian behavior.

Wound dressings are one of the most rapidly expanding areas in medical textiles. In recent years, a large number of functional wound dressing has been developed. The aims of these products are to speed up the wound healing process and to provide maximum comfort for patients. Today, the multidisciplinary studies are required to improve further existed wound dressings. The results of such research studies are also promised new hopes for the Turkish textile industry weakened by the global competition.

The aim of our work is to study the dyeing properties of extracts from natural sources such as Papaver rhoeas by modifying the conditions of the dyeing process, choosing other substrates that could be pretreated by innovative and environmentally friendly processes. The results obtained show a fairly high fixation of the extracts on the natural and artificial fibers. The use of mordants allowed the dye to be better fixed on the dyed fibers and to give several shades to the fabric. The rate of essential oil contained in Papaver rhoeas was considered important by the Clevenger process.

Cotton is the most essential textile crop worldwide, and phytohormones are critical for cotton fiber development. One example is the role of auxin in fiber initiation, but we know little molecular basis. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) have a significant function in cotton development; nevertheless their role in fiber initiation remains unclear.

Presently there is a great demand for the use of natural colours throughout the world due to non-biodegradable and carcinogenic nature associated with synthetic dyes. Natural dyes are non-toxic, non-allergic and non-carcinogenic as these are obtained from animals or vegetable matters without any chemical processing. Natural dyes are mostly used to dye natural fibers like cotton, wool and silk.

Geotextiles a natural product at eco-friendly and biodegradable in nature, act as useful ameliorative to climate the soil related constrains of crop production. Biodeterioration of cellulose fiber results from the reduction at die polymerization leading to loss textile strength. It also helps to protect the most vital natural resources of soil and water from various degradation processes by erosion of soil and runoff water. It plays a vital role in increasing moisture holding capacity in soil, improving water uptake and drainage capacity.
