Urinary tract infection is one of the most common bacterial infections especially in developing countries. It shows lot of regional variation in causative pathogens and antimicrobial susceptibility pattern. Hence requires regular regionwise surveillance. Urine samples received at microbiology laboratory from patients with symptomatology of urinary tract infection were included in the study. All the samples were processed according to standard protocol, identification and antibiotic susceptibility testing was done.

A total of 150 samples from poultry were evaluated for avian pathogenic E. coli. All the 77 isolates of E. coli were tested for in vitro sensitivity towards 14 antibacterial drugs. The highest resistance was attributed towards antibiotic ampicillin, colistin, and nitrofurantoin followed by cefixime, cotrimoxazole, doxycycline, tetracycline, amoxyclav, ofloxacin, streptomycin, gentamicin, levofloxacin and amikacin. The highest sensitivity of E. coli was towards chloramphenicol antibiotic. Simultaneous resistance to 6 to 11 antibacterial agents was observed in all 77 (100%) isolates.

Infection complicates the pathological picture of diabetic foot and plays a main role in development of moist gangrene. A total sample size of 100 patients with diabetic foot ulcer was included in this cross sectional study. A detailed history was obtained and assessment of clinical symptoms and signs were made. Discharge from the lesions, pus aspirates from the abscesses and debrided necrotic materials were collected. Aerobic culture anerobic culture and antibiotic susceptibility testing was done. Males were the predominant group in this study 66% as compared to females 34%.

Chronic Suppurative Otitis Media (CSOM) is a well known disease for its persistence and recurrence in spite of treatment. It was found to be the single major cause of conductive deafness, speech disorders. It involves considerable morbidity and can cause extra and intracranial complications. Due to development of beta lactamase producing microorganisms, drug resistant strains emerge making drug resistance a major cause of treatment failure. The isolation of Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) was reported within 1year of introduction of methicillin.

Enteric fever is a global health problem and is also endemic in India. The etiologic agents of enteric fever i.e. S. typhi and S. paratyphi occurs mostly through food-borne or waterborne transmission. Worldwide, however, there are an estimated 22 million cases of enteric fever annually, with 600,000 deaths and an estimate of the annual typhoid incidence rate of 493.5 per 100,000 person years was reported from India in 2008. The laboratory diagnosis of enteric fever is very important mainly in this post-antibiotic era.
